Pre-natal/Pregnancy Pilates

Pilates is hugely beneficial during pregnancy and you can usually continue attending a normal Pilates class during the first trimester if you have already been doing Pilates. After approximately 20 weeks of pregnancy it is more beneficial to attend a specific pre-natal/Pregnancy Pilates class because you may not be able to do a lot of the exercises in a regular Pilates class such as lying on your stomach or back for long periods.

Benefits and focus of a Pregnancy Pilates class:

  • Relieves back pain

  • Strengthens shoulder girdle and trunk

  • Helps maintain good posture and alignment

  • Improves pelvic floor function

  • Gentle stretches to relieve common aches and pains in pregnancy

  • Gets your body ready for your birth

  • Promotes Relaxation

Post-natal Pilates

Pilates is an excellent way to get back in shape after having a baby. Your body has undergone a huge amount of physical strain & transformation; Pilates can help your body through gently strengthening the bodies’ core muscles while improving your general sense of well-being. Pilates classes are low impact, they involve stretching & strengthening the whole body with focused breathing that will help regain your bodies muscle balance. A beginners or gentle Pilates class is suitable once you have been told by your doctor you can return to exercise.

I am not currently teaching any group Pregnancy classes, I do offer private 1:1, 2:1 Pre/Post-natal Pregnancy sessions. For more info please see classes and prices.

Emily’s classes were so relaxing with a strong focus on breathing and yet I came away feeling like I’d really worked every muscle. My biggest concern at the time was not doing anything too strenuous that might affect my pregnancy and Emily really understood this and worked individually with everyone in the class ensuring they felt comfortable, safe and challenged at a level they were happy with. I cannot recommend Emily highly enough. Not only is she incredibly skilled but she is also a very warm and welcoming teacher. If I could I’d attend her classes every day!
